formation of the historical and cultural potential of the region during the Russian Empire. Places and people&#8217;s achievements that are of great importance in determining the image of the territory are identified and described. First of all, we took into account such symbols that are primarily associated with Gorny Altai and are of interest to guests of the republic, and were formed from the period from the middle of the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century. At the beginning of the new historical era, Gorny Altai continued to remain unknown, a wonderful land of the Altaians, storing untold riches that are very difficult to obtain. Through the efforts and labors of Old Believers, missionaries, peasant settlers, merchants, researchers, and prospectors, this mountainous region gradually became the &#171;Russian Altai&#187;. The imperial period left us not only a general impression of Gorny Altai, but also a small number of material objects that today require increased attention from regional
