Abstract.<\/strong> This section considers the key elements of the image of Altai and its capital Barnaul in the 18th \u2013 early 20th centuries, which could be effectively used to optimise their modern image. The rich historical potential is a solid foundation for an attractive image. Unfortunately, much of the historical heritage of this period has been lost, sometimes barbarously and ruthlessly destroyed, and it is our duty to our descendants to preserve what remains and, if possible, to revive some of it. We have identified the main historical features of the image of the city and the region, such as \u2018mining region\u2019, \u2018mountain town\u2019, \u2018the birthplace of many inventions\u2019, hospitable and tolerant region, in which representatives of different nationalities (Russians, Germans, Poles, etc.) and religions (Orthodox, Lutherans, Catholics, Old Believers, etc.) have long co-existed and made a great contribution to its development. In relation to the city of Barnaul there is also such a largely lost historical feature of its image as the image of a \u2018green city\u2019, abounding in forests, groves, tree alleys and shrubs. It is not without reason that in the early 20th century Barnaul architect I.F. Nosowicz developed a project to organise a \u2018garden city\u2019 in Barnaul (for the first time in Russia), which, due to the outbreak of the revolution and civil war, was not implemented, but a similar project was later implemented in another Altai city \u2013 Rubtsovsk.<\/p>\n
